LANDLOCKED

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 September 2026

The short version. Landlocked has no tracking and never asks for your email address. You can play with no account at all. If you create one to keep a rating, it holds a username and a passphrase — nothing else.

What is collected

WhatWhy
The name you type To show your entry on the daily leaderboard. Pick a nickname — it does not need to be your real name.
A random ID Generated on your device the first time you play. It holds your place on the board so one person is one entry. It is not linked to your identity and tells us nothing about you.
Your score and time The point of a leaderboard. Your answers are sent so the server can mark them; only the totals are stored.
If you make an account:
a username
Shown on the leaderboard and next to your rating. Pick anything — it does not need to be your real name.
a passphrase Stored only as a one-way hash (PBKDF2-SHA256, salted), never as text. Nobody, including us, can read it back.
your rating and how many days you have played So your level follows you between your phone and your computer.

Accounts are entirely optional. Playing without one works exactly as before, and keeps your score to the daily leaderboard only.

That is the complete list. There is no email address, password, phone number, location, contact list, advertising ID or payment information — none of it is asked for, and none of it is stored.

What is public

The name, score, number correct and total time of everyone on a day's leaderboard are visible to anyone playing that day. Do not use a name you would not want shown publicly. Names are screened automatically, and anything offensive is replaced with “Anonymous”.

Staying signed in

When you sign in, your device stores a signed token that keeps you logged in for six months so you do not have to type anything again. Your passphrase is never stored on your device. Signing out removes the token immediately.

Cookies and tracking

Landlocked sets no cookies, contains no advertising, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Nothing you do here is sold, shared or used to profile you, and there is no third party to share it with.

The game does store a few things in your browser's local storage, which stay on your device and are never sent anywhere except as described above: your chosen name, your random ID, and which puzzle you have already played. Clearing your browser data removes them.

How long it is kept

Who else is involved

The game is hosted on Cloudflare, which serves the pages and stores the leaderboard. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the network requests your device makes, including your IP address, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Landlocked itself does not log, store or have access to your IP address. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Children

Landlocked is a general-audience geography quiz. It collects no personal details, so it is safe for all ages — but as anyone can type a name onto the leaderboard, younger players should use a nickname.

Your rights

Daily leaderboard entries expire on their own after seven days. If you have an account, get in touch with your username and it will be deleted along with your rating and history — there is no email tied to it, so that request is how it is done. You can also clear everything held on your device at any time by signing out or clearing your browser data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the game's home screen.
